On July 20, it will be the 40th anniversary of the moon landing. Imagine 40 years and we have not gone back. The debate now is not how soon can we get back, it's about why should we go back at all.
Here is a reason to go back. Survival! Our survival. History shows us that it takes a while to colonize any new place. So this small step will be the first step in our survival.
We know that it is only a matter of when something will happen that will lead to our demise. Not if, when.
When you have NEO's (Near Earth Objects, a term used for asteroids that cross the Earth's orbit), one of which is said to have wiped out the dinosaurs. Comets, like the one that hit Jupiter (by the way if that had been Earth, we would not be here worrying about global warming right now) or Super Volcanoes , Yellow Stone is an example of one. Then it is time to begin thinking about the suvival of the species.
Since we can't stop any of the above mentioned things from happening, then we need to make sure that we have our people in areas where if one or more of these things happen it will not wipe us out. Because once we go to the moon, we wont stop there. We humans will end up is every corner of the solar system so then what ever happens to earth the human species will survive. Hopefully we wont have an ELE (Extinction Level Event) in our lifetime, but what about our kids.
So while we remember the moon landing of 40 years ago, let us also remember how lucky we are to be here to remember it at all. Lets us begin working to go back so we are not depending on luck to keep us save in the future.
